Babysitter Beware Book Drawing!

Mom's Choice Awards posted an interview with me on December 10, 2012. Imagine my surprise when I saw the twitt go out when I was at the Mesquite Festival of Books. I remembered them sending me a few questions to answer some months back but never heard a peep after. The interview shares about my inspiration, writing my award-winning book (which has won not only the Silver Mom's Choice Seal but also the 2011 Silver Quill here in Utah) and a bit about me in general. Yes, there are a few typos, not sure if that was me typing replies to questions at 2am in the morning or what...but the overall interview is done well. Here is little sample: VS Grenier (or Virginia, as we like to call her) is not just a children’s book author – she’s also founder and owner of Stories For Children Publishing, LLC ; chief editor for Halo Publishing, Int ; host of several blog talk radio shows – including  The World of Ink Network: Stories for Children and The Writing Mama ; and more!...

Is Entering Writing Contests and Book Awards Worth It?

I have been asked this question more than once during my writing career. At first, I gave the standard answer I learned from my instructor at the ICL…YES! The question you maybe be wondering is has my opinion changed since then…NO. Entering writing contests (Free or Fee Based) is always a good thing. However, you want to make sure the contest you are entering is with a known company or group. I only say this because you want to make sure you’re not paying money or sending your manuscript somewhere no one has ever heard of and to never see again. With that said, I have entered all kinds of contests. Some have been through the Institute of Children’s Literature, Writer’s Digest, League of Utah Writers, Preditors & Editors, Mom’s Choice and other unknown local and national smaller groups and companies.  Winning is always nice, of course, but that isn’t why I enter contests. I do it to hence my writing and submission techniques, to hone my talents and learn from my mist...

Guest Post on the Inspiration Behind Writing "Believe" by Kasey Crawford Kellem, Creator of M.O.M Books

The inspiration behind writing Believe and info on the other Mind Over Matter (M.O.M) Books by Kasey Crawford Kellem RESILIENCY: Since I began in education over 20 years ago, I had been intrigued by how children and adults rebounded in life. I studied the characteristics of resiliency in Graduate School and Post Grad School. Determined to somehow teach children how to be resilient, I later came up with the book idea. Book writing had not only been something I wanted to do since I was a child, but also something my mother encouraged me to do! It made perfect sense to combine my mission with my childhood dream! I was on a mission to help children become resilient. In order to be resilient, I knew children needed to BELIEVE in their possibilities, RELAX often, LAUGH at playful experiences, DREAM about inspiring futures, and LOVE those they encounter. And so the book series began: Believe ; Love ; Laugh ; Relax ; and Dream . After further thought, the company, Mind Over Matter (M.O....
