Interview with Adam Epstein & Andrew Jacobson

For Immediate Release

Interview with Adam Epstein & Andrew Jacobson
Authors of The Familiars, Harper Collins September 2010

Blog Interviewer, D.M. Cunningham had the chance to interview the authors of the newest series “The Familiars”. If you are a Harry Potter or Warriors fan than this is one book and interview you will not want to miss!

Adam grew up in New York and Andrew in Wisconsin. They met in Los Angeles a little over ten years ago and started writing for film and television. Their first break was writing the screenplay for the movie, Not Another Teen Movie. From there they went on to write for the MTV Movie Awards for six years. Then a few years ago, Adam and Andrew decided to make a change. They had always dreamed of writing the kinds of projects they grew up loving -- adventure, fantasy, magic. It made perfect sense for Adam and Andrew to write a story targeted to the middle grade reader!

"The Familiars," is also being adapted into a 3D animated movie! Academy Award nominated Pixar director Doug Sweetland, who created the short film PRESTO, which appeared before WALL-E, has been hired by Sony Animation to helm "The Familiars."

Instead of posting an interview here today, I'm going to share a very interesting interview with you all over at the SFC blog Families Matter. What I love about this interview is not only the overall answers to the questions presented, but also the get to know the authors video. Something I had never thought about doing for my books, but now I will consider if it works with the book's storyline.

Interview Friday with Author Maggie Lyons

Maggie Lyons was born in Wales and brought up in England before gravitating west to Virginia’s coast. She zigzagged her way through a motley variety of careers from orchestral management to law-firm media relations to academic editing. Writing and editing nonfiction for adults brought plenty of satisfaction but nothing like the magic she discovered in writing fiction and nonfiction for children. Several of her articles, poetry, and a chapter book have been published in the children’s magazines Stories for Children Magazine and knowonder! VS: I want to thank you for being my guest here on The Writing Mama today, Maggie. To get things started can you share what you do to help balance your writing life with your family life? Maggie: Very fortunately for me, I’m retired and my son left the nest some time ago. That doesn’t mean I have no other commitments, of course. In fact, I’m very busy as a freelance editor, but I do have the privilege of being able to control m...

Interview Friday: Author Sands Hetherington

Sands Hetherington credits his son John for being his principal motivator. Sands raised his son as a single parent from the time John was six. He read to him every night during those formative years. He and young John developed the Crosley crocodile character in the series during months of bedtime story give-and-take. Sands majored in history at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and has an M.F.A. in creative writing and an M.A. in English from UNC-Greensboro. He lives in Greensboro. VS: I want to thank you for being my guest here on The Writing Mama today. To get things started, Sands, what do you do to help balance your writing life with your family life? Sands: Hi Mama and thanks for having me over. Actually, my family life was part of my writing life. I was a single (male) parent of a six-year-old son. We always did bedtime stories. One night John invented a red crocodile named Crosley for an after-lights-out companion. This evolved directly into...

3 Time Management Strategies to Boost Productivity

Developing effective time management strategies is critical to anyone who wants to get the most out of their efforts to increase productivity. Generally speaking that would pretty much be everybody! Who out there does not feel the time crunch every day presents to us as our 'to do' list continues to grow without the benefit of additional time to manage it? It seems obvious that since time can not be 'fabricated out of thin air' we must therefore learn to better manage what we already got. Here are 3 time management techniques anyone can apply immediately to squeeze the most out of their efforts leading to an increase in personal productivity. Self-Imposed Deadlines By placing a time limit on your work this serves to increase the 'pressure' on you which 'encourages' more focus on your part. We all know that when the pressure is on we tend to concentrate more on the source of the pressure itself. With a higher level of concentration we are able to in...
