2010 LOS ANGELES BOOK FESTIVAL CALL FOR ENTRIES

LOS ANGELES _ The 2010 Los Angeles Book Festival has issued a call for entries to its annual program honoring the best of the world publishing community.

The Los Angeles Book Festival will consider self-published or independent publisher non-fiction, fiction, biography/autobiography, children's books, young adult, how-to, cookbooks, science fiction, business, spiritual, photography/art, poetry, foreign language, romance and mysteries published on or after Jan. 1, 2007.

Our grand prize for the 2010 Los Angeles Book Festival Book of the Year is $1500 cash and a flight to the awards ceremony in February.

Submitted works will be judged by a publishing panel using the following criteria:
  1. General excellence and the author's passion for telling a good story.
  2. The potential of the work to reach a larger audience.
ENTRIES: Please classify your book and enter it in the following categories. Multiple entries must be accompanied by a separate fee for each book.

  5. Young Adult
  6. How-to
  7. Cookbooks
  8. Science Fiction
  1. Business
  2. Spiritual
  3. Photography/Art

  7. Foreign Language
In addition to honoring the top selections in the above categories, The Los Angeles Book Festival will award the following chosen from submissions:
  1. Los Angeles Book Festival Author of the Year-Honors the outstanding book of the competition.
  2. Los Angeles Book Festival Book Design of the Year --- Honors outstanding and innovative design.
  3. Los Angeles Book Festival Independent Publisher of the Year-Honors the top publisher based on materials displaying excellence in marketing and promotional materials, as determined by our judges.

Jack Remick is a poet, short story writer and novelist. In 2012, Coffeetown Press published the first two volumes of Jack’s California Quartet series, The Deification and Valley Boy . Lakisha Spletzer is a single parent of two highly creative children. She has been writing stories since the tender age of eight. It was always for school or her own amusement; never for others. Lakisha has written fan fics (mostly during high school) and the stories tended to favor such shows as Star Trek, SeaQuest, and Highlander, just to name a few. She did a lot of poetry writing too during high school year; mainly to release all her angst, woes and emotions buried deep inside. After high school, Lakisha went to college and received two degrees: an AAS from Mountain Empire Community College (Big Stone Gap, Virginia) and a BA in Communications from the University of Virginia-Wise. It was not until after the birth of her first child she considered writing a novel.
