Book Review of Adventures of Nutty and Twittles: OH NUTS! I LOST My Sister

Adventures of Nutty and Twittles, Oh Nuts! I Lost My Little Sister

Illustrator: Amy Rottinger
Publisher: Halo Publishing, Int.
Genre: Children’s Picture Book

About the book: Nutty and his sister Twittles set out to play a fun game of hide "n" seek with their friends. When Twittles is the only one missing, the game quickly changes. Nutty has to find his sister because she may be lost in the dark and dangerous Forrest.

My Review: I read this book with my 4 year old who really enjoyed the story and had lots of questions while I was reading. She wanted to know why the characters didn't listen to their teacher about staying out of the dark forest. I let her know that sometimes children don't always listen to what parents, teachers and adults say. We chatted a bit about this before continuing the story. She did seem to get a little confused between which squirrel was Nutty and which was Twittles, but other then that she loved the illustrations as much as the story context.

The story is a bit long for her to read on her own and is better suited for a 3rd grade reader, but younger readers will enjoy the story when it is read to them. The illustrations didn't allow for much in reading clues to help my 4 year old with telling me what she thought was happening in the story, but we did have fun talking about what might or could be happening in each one.

The ending did bring the lesson back about the importance of listening and following rules. However, Nutty doesn't solve his problem completely on his own. I know many children's book critics wouldn't like this, but the way the author wrapped up the story worked and it didn't bother my daughter or me.

Overall, we enjoyed the story and will be reading it again I'm sure.

5 Places to Find Writing Ideas

If you've ever struggled in coming up with creative ideas, welcome to the club. For most writers, discovering new writing projects involves conscious pursuit of their thought trails. But where do start on our quest for inspiration? Here are a few places you can find new ideas for writing: 1. The world around you. Just like a photographer, you must start looking at life through your own personal lens. You will get a tremendous amount of writing material if you start filtering your own experiences. Soon you will start noticing ideas everywhere around you. Very often the muse will come at strange times and from unusual sources, so be prepared. The world is full of surprises that can materialize in your next book or article. 2. Writers’ associations and networks. If you are a professional writer, you probably belong to an association or writer's group. Generating new ideas will feel much easier after meeting other members or attending writing workshops and conferences. You ...
