A Tale of Redemption and Creativity

In our latest podcast episode, we had the privilege to journey through the remarkable life of Joshua Lloyd Fox, an indie author and master storyteller who embarked on his writing career at the age of 40. Joshua's diverse background as a soldier, aircraft mechanic, technical writer, and more for both the US and foreign militaries, his profound insights on faith, transformation, and creativity make for an engaging conversation.

Joshua's story of personal transformation and the therapeutic power of storytelling is truly compelling. His battle with childhood trauma and how it shaped his life and creative process is a testament to resilience and the human spirit. During our conversation, we delved into his experience with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and the potential therapeutic benefits of micro-dosing hallucinogens. It was enlightening to see how writing served as a powerful tool for Joshua to reframe his personal narratives and confront his darkest moments. We also explored the significance of the creative process in our personal growth and connection with others. Joshua shared his thoughts on the importance of creating one's own narrative and the evolution of ideas. His journey of self-discovery and the publishing process provides invaluable insights for writers, readers, and anyone interested in understanding their own journey better.

The conversation further led us to explore the role of Judeo-Christian Western European literary criticism in liturgy and its evolution into myths, legend, and folk tales. We discussed how these stories shape a narrative of national identity, and how propaganda can be a form of storytelling. This part of the discussion shed light on the power of internalizing the beliefs of others, and how our beliefs can shape our worldview.

Towards the end of the conversation, we reflected on the value of creativity and how it brings us together with others on the same journey. The evolution of ideas can be as crucial as our biological evolution, shaping our laws, policies, and even our collective consciousness, forming what is known as the noosphere.

The Comeback of 2D Animation: Why We’re Craving Realness Again

There’s something happening in animation right now that’s worth paying attention to—not because it’s simply nostalgic, but because it’s deeply human. As someone who works in the mental health and creative storytelling space, I can’t help but see these conversations about art, AI, and hand-drawn storytelling as part of a bigger theme: our collective hunger for authenticity. We live in a time where AI-generated content is everywhere—convenient, efficient, and often soulless. It’s not surprising that artists and audiences alike are looking back toward something that feels more tactile, more imperfect, more human. That brings us to 2D animation, an art form that has shaped generations and now, it seems, might just be making a comeback. Here’s what Language of the Soul podcast host, Dominick Domingo, had to say on this trend: There’s been a lot of industry talk lately speculating about 2D/traditional ANIMATION making a comeback. Recent articles confirm that although Disney has not greenlit...
